Getting Cozy: Affirmations for Quarantine

The reality of social distancing, self-quarantine, and lockdown measures is starting to sink in. In the mindfulness toolkit, I generally saw affirmations as pretty ineffectual (and I just found out that bell hooks also once thought affirmations “corny”). However, I decided to try out a more deliberate mindfulness practice this last round of teaching, and I found affirmations weirdly helpful and shared them with my mom and sister.

Now that we’re in the middle of a pandemic, I am drawn back to weekly affirmations, organized by whatever theme seems most pertinent to orient toward for that week. Thinking of the different struggles we find ourselves in as we sequester in close quarters, this week’s theme is “getting cozy.”

Today, I will do the best I can.

I peacefully let go of past thoughts, feelings and emotions that no longer serve me.

I am patient and supportive—with myself, and with others.

I can communicate my needs and feelings.

I practice listening to myself, no matter how quiet or chaotic my surroundings.

I have always done the best I could with my circumstances and my capabilities.

I accept the love of others in whatever form it comes.

I draw on the support that surrounds me, in whatever form.

I make peace with the present moment.

  1. Those are absolutely wonderful. In our solitude we reflect and feel and live with a whole new perspective!
